Hi audient,
alas perpetual injury has stymied any chance of September. the pinched nerve from April has not improved. There is no pain as such, but after 3km, my left leg starts to weaken and after another 2 - 3 drags along Verbal Kint style. It is really frustrating. I do notice that on my Thursday morning session where we break things up and run a lot of short distances, that it doesn't seem to be that bad.
I am swimming still and it is great news that MSAC has re-opened the outside pool. I took the opportunity of having a long swim today of about 2km which was great. My back is still playing up so am not sure what it means as failing Sydney in September, New York in 2009 was a plan. I am carrying about 5Kg's too much which will have an obvious impact on my back. The swimming is great, but it has the adverse effect of building up my shoulders which means more weight.....
Sorry for the long abscence, I'll try and get better at this blog business...
Adios

Sorry for being slack - back at the physio
Hi audient,
I'm not having a good run at the moment. the right knee has sorted itself out but this was shortly followed by a pinched nerve in my back from my old back injury. This has manifested itself with no pain (good) but about a 30% drop in muscle strength on the left leg (no I'm not running in circles). For a few weeks or so it was as if I was Kaiser Soze (Usual Suspects) without the grudge....
I went for a lap of Albert Park lake this morning (4.6Km) which was a nice gentle run. I swam a few KM's last week as well as deep water running. I need to lose about 5 - 8 Kgs as I have stacked it on which won't be doing my joints any good.
So, lots of work ahead, to be taken in bite sized pieces. Still doing and enjoying Thursday's group session with Robbo so hopefully I'll be back on track soon.
I'll update this a bit more frequently

Breathe sigh of relief (well sort of)
OK - prognosis is good. It turns out no major damage (minor meniscus) has occured which is a relief. I'm back swimming and went for a bike ride around St Kilda which caused no pain. I'm back to see the physio Monday 25th. During yesterday's appointment, I was able to benchpress 60/70Kg's without any pain. Twisting still causes a sharp jab of pain, so no Chubby Checker for me....
I am a happy man although I will need to get the program tweaked.
Full Steam ahead!!!!!

Uh oh - that didn't feel good
AAAAAARGHHHH! I played tennis whilst at a conference and twisted my knee badly - I am seeing a speialist tomorrow but I am nervous that it is something quite bad - it has all the hall marks of meniscus at minimum, ACL at worst. The knee has swollen up to about a 3rd bigger than the other one. I have it strapped but any rotation is agony - short sharp agony which worries me. I am really frustrated about this - I was playing quite well; serves were going in (I haven't played in 10+ years) then when going back for a shot, my body moved but my right foot didn't - it really gave me the sh*ts.
Stay tuned for more when I get the verdict tomorrow.......

Ski trip interupts training
Well my training took a bit of a side line over the past few weeks. I took the opportunity to catch up with my Dad in Austria for a weeks skiing. Needless to say I had a great time. My brother Gary joined us from New York and as a trio we set the slopes ablaze!
As regards training, 30hours each way really messed with me - especially the jet lag upon my return: not good. It also seemed to affect my back - it just wasn't right. I'm on a business trip today up the country so I ran a lap of a lap of Albert Park Lake: my back forced me to run reaaaaaal slow - I estimate over 35 minutes. Currently it feels quite good so maybe it was the thing I needed to do.
I need to get my A*se in gear. I am going away for another 4 days as of this Thursday.
In three weeks my 'air miles' will amount to Melbourne - Zurich return, Melbourne - Albury return, Melbourne Far North Queensland return followed by Melbourne Sydney return. However exotic you may view flying dear reader, this amount sucks big time......... Needless to say, it is having major training ramifications. I'll let you know how I go. Theoretically I should be running 10Km's this Saturday: I won't - trust me. I will try a big walk though.
Thanks for reading, more soon!
